Walking Through Japan's Longest Shopping Street | Local Japan | 日本一長い！？天神橋筋商店街をスナップ撮影！

I took a walk and snapped some photos along the Tenjinbashisuji Shopping Street—said to be the longest in Japan—which stretches approximately 2.6 kilometers from north to south. It takes about 30 to 40 minutes to walk the length of this street, which is lined with a delightful variety of shops. The History of Tenjinbashisuji Shopping Street Tenjinbashisuji Shopping Street is known as Japan's longest shopping street, extending for about 2.6 kilometers. Its history dates back to the Edo period, when it flourished as a monzen-machi (a town that developed around the gate of a temple or shrine) serving Osaka Tenmangu Shrine. The shrine enshrines Sugawara no Michizane, the deity of learning; the shopping street grew as restaurants and shops selling daily necessities gathered there to cater to the many worshippers. The name "Tenjinbashisuji" is derived from Tenjinbashi Bridge—located near Osaka Tenmangu—and the street that extends north and south from it. Today, the street is home to around 600 shops, where long-established businesses coexist with newer ones.
