Building Climate-Smart Rice Farming with AWD

Traditional paddy farming in India can use up to 30 million litres of water per hectare and contributes to methane emissions and rising input costs. This video explains how the Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) method is helping farmers reduce water use in rice cultivation. Implemented under the Good Rice Alliance by Bayer with Arya.ag, AWD was introduced across Assam, Jharkhand, and Uttarakhand. In the first year across 750 hectares, farmers: • Reduced water use by ~30% • Saved over 7 billion litres of freshwater • Cut fertilizer use by 20–30% • Lowered irrigation costs by ₹4,000–₹5,000 per hectare A field-led approach to sustainable rice farming in India and climate-resilient agriculture. #RiceFarming #AWD #SmartIrrigation #WaterConservation #SustainableAgriculture #IndianAgriculture #PaddyFarming #ClimateSmartAgriculture #AryaAg #AryaTech
