The Tragic Ladies Code Crash That Broke K-pop
There are some tragedies that never really leave a fandom. Even years later, people still remember exactly where they were when they heard the news. And for many K-pop fans, the crash involving Ladies’ Code was one of those moments. Because this was not just another headline. It was not just another shocking celebrity story. It was the sudden destruction of something young, rising, and full of promise. A bright group with a growing future, torn apart in a single night. And for many fans, it felt like the moment innocence disappeared from K-pop. The crash happened on September 3, 2014, when the group’s van crashed on a highway near Seoul in rainy conditions, killing EunB and leaving RiSe critically injured. Ladies’ Code was still a relatively new group at the time, but they were already building a loyal following. Their lineup included Ashley, RiSe, EunB, Sojung, and Zuny. They had debuted in 2013, and by 2014 they were seen as one of the promising young girl groups in the industry. They were energetic, stylish, and full of personality. Their future still felt wide open. Then, in the early hours of September 3, 2014, everything changed. After attending a recording of KBS “Open Concert” in Daegu, the group was traveling back to Seoul. The road conditions were wet. It was late. And sometime around 1:20 to 1:30 in the morning, their van lost control near the Singal Junction on the Yeongdong Expressway and crashed into a guardrail. Early reporting said the crash happened on a rain-drenched highway, and the initial aftermath was devastating. EunB, whose real name was Go Eun-bi, did not survive. She was only 21 years old internationally, 22 in Korean age reporting at the time, and the news spread with horrifying speed. Fans woke up to headlines saying that one member of Ladies’ Code had died, while other members were seriously injured. RiSe, whose real name was Kwon Ri-se, was rushed into emergency treatment and remained in critical condition. Sojung was also seriously injured, while Ashley, Zuny, the driver, and a stylist suffered lighter injuries. That alone would have been enough to break people. But the story became even more painful in the days that followed.
