A27-A59 Hooipolder | Two new connecting roads | Drive-by | May 2026 | NL

Hooipolder Interchange is a road interchange in the southwest of the Netherlands where the A27 (Almere-Breda) and A59 (Nijmegen-Zierikzee) motorways meet. It is one of the few interchanges where (part of) the traffic is routed via traffic lights. To improve traffic flow, several modifications are being implemented at the interchange. On April 13, 2026, a new connecting road was put into use for traffic from the A59 (Zierikzee) to the A27 towards Almere. This traffic is routed in a wide arc around the intersection with traffic lights. Around May 6, 2026, a shortcut was put into use for traffic in the opposite direction (from the A27 from Almere to the A59 Zierikzee), meaning this traffic is no longer routed via the traffic lights. Both connecting roads are possible because exit 34 (Raamsdonk) on the A59 was closed on December 1, 2025, and subsequently removed. This created space for these two new connecting roads. The video starts on the A27 at the Keizersveer bridge. The current work for the widening of this section of the A27 also starts there. Via the new connecting road at the Hooipolder interchange, we drive to the Oosterhout exit (33) on the A59. From there, we go back in the opposite direction via the other new connecting road to the Keizersveer bridge. =========================================
