The Stone that built Fort George
Fort George is simply the mightiest artillery fortification in Britain, if not Europe. It was built after the defeat of Bonnie Prince Charlie's army at Culloden. It is a massive structure, but where did all the stone to build it come from? This video seeks to answer that question. My grateful thanks to Roland Spencer-Jones who wrote a very detailed blog on the subject for the North of Scotland Archaeological Society. (NOSAS). He has kindly allowed me the use its contents. The full article can be found here. https://nosasblog.wordpress.com/tag/m... You can visit Fort George and explore and marvel at its size and history. It is looked after by Historic Scotland. Information and tickets can be found here. https://www.historicenvironment.scot/...
