Pee-wee’s Big Adventure (1985) | Criterion 4K Review – A Classic That Didn’t Quite Click for Me

Pee-wee’s Big Adventure (1985) arrives on Criterion Collection 4K UHD, marking the feature film debut of Tim Burton and the big-screen breakout of Paul Reubens’ Pee-wee Herman. In this review, I share an honest and respectful take on a film that clearly means a great deal to many viewers—even though it didn’t fully connect with me personally. I discuss the film’s legacy, Burton’s early visual style, the intentionally exaggerated Pee-wee persona, and how Criterion’s excellent 4K presentation and supplements help contextualize its place in film history. Not every Criterion release has to be a personal favorite to be worth discussing, and this is very much one of those cases. 🎬 Topics covered: • Tim Burton’s feature debut • Paul Reubens and the Pee-wee character • Why the humor didn’t land for me • Criterion’s 4K restoration and supplements • Who this release is best suited for 👍 If you enjoy thoughtful, film-first Criterion coverage, consider subscribing.   / 20thand21st     / and21st   [email protected] Send mail to: James Merritt PO Box 104 Lebanon, GA 30146
