At RM Sotheby's auction at the Arizona Biltmore Resort in Phoenix , Mercedes-Benz 540K Special Roadster w29 was sold for a record sum of 9.9 million dollars. Thus, this Mercedes-Benz 540K Special Roadster was the most expensive car sold in the history of this auction. The vehicle is considered one of the finest interwar automobile ever and was coach built in just 419 examples. Mercedes 540K models go, this was a particularly special example. Originally sold in the US, chassis 130894 is a desirable high-door long-tail body, which also has a flawless history coming from its last owner of 29 years. The red 1937 example sold by RM Sotheby’s in Biltmore Arizona is an early pre-production car, which makes it even more valuable. The last time this car was on the market was in 1989, so buyers launched a bidding war that made this specimen set a new record in the state.
