Ahobilam Temple is in Allagadda Mandal, Kurnool Dist of Andhra Pradesh. Ahobilam temple is 352 km's from Hyderabad, 22 km's from Allagadda. Ahobilam Temple is surrounded by the Eastern Ghats’ picturesque hills, with many mountain hills and gorges. It is the worship centre of Narasimha, Vishnu’s lion-headed avatar, to whom all the nine Hindu temples and other shrines are dedicated. At Lower Ahobilam there is the main village and a temple complex. Around 8 kilometres to the east, Upper Ahobilam has more temples in a steep gorge. Nine shrines to Narasimha, situated around a 5 KM radius, consist of the Ahobilam Temple. There is a temple of Prahlada Varada Varadhan in the foothills of the peak, in addition to the nine shrines. Many of the utsava vigraham of the nine shrines are held in this temple for security reasons and the difficulty of conducting regular worship. Some relatively arduous walking also includes visiting the entire party. Traditionally, Ahobilam is known as the location where Vishnu killed the rakshasa Hiranyakashipu in the form of Narasimha in order to save his devotee Prahlada. The legend says that to destroy the rakshasa, Narasimha emerged from a rock pillar. In a variety of murti in the different temples, the moment is portrayed. Garuda also prayed in the form of Avathara for a vision of Narasimha, to fulfil his wish, and settled across the hills in Ahobilam in nine forms.
