The first lawn mowing should be done one month after the grass emerges. After this, you can mow for 10-14 days. To properly mow the lawn, use a lawn mower with a well-sharpened blade. Mow the lawn at a height of 4-5 cm. The lower you mow, the shorter the lawn roots will be. This affects the density of the lawn and its resilience to abnormal conditions. If you don't have a lawn mower, you can trim the lawn with a trimmer, and in hard-to-reach areas, use garden shears. Scarifying and Aerating the Lawn. Aeration is the process of puncturing (cutting) the lawn and soil to improve the penetration of air and beneficial nutrients. Lawn aeration is done with an aerator. I use a Bosch AVR1100 aerator. This process is also called lawn scarification, and the device used is called a scarifier. Essentially, they are the same thing. If you don't have an aerator, you can aerate your lawn manually, with a pitchfork, or with special spiked sandals. Aeration (scarification) is recommended in the spring and fall. Scarification in the spring removes old grass, and aeration in the fall prepares the lawn for winter. Aeration can also be done in the summer, but I also recommend repeating it in the fall. Lawn Fertilizer Nitrogen, potassium, and phosphorus fertilizers are the best fertilizers for lawns. Nitrogen fertilizers are applied in the spring. They help the lawn emerge from hibernation more quickly, become stronger, and acquire a rich, bright green color. Repeat applications of nitrogen fertilizer should be repeated in the summer, no later than the end of July. A typical nitrogen fertilizer is nitrate. We recommend using nitrate with extreme caution when using it as a lawn fertilizer. Nitrate is highly concentrated in nitrogen, so applying too much will cause the grass to burn and die. Fertilizing your lawn in August is recommended with a potassium-phosphorus fertilizer.
