[레위기 4강의] 죄는 행동이 아니라 뿌리에서 시작된다

Description Leviticus Lecture 4 examines, through the ‘Regulations on the Atonement Sacrifice,’ that sin is not merely a matter of simple mistakes or actions, but is connected to the sinfulness deep within the human heart. Through the meaning of blood and ashes, we meditate together on how Christ completely dealt with our sins. Video Introduction This lecture focuses on the sin offering, which is a mandatory offering among the five sacrifices in Leviticus. While we usually think of sin merely as visible actions or mistakes, Leviticus diagnoses the sinfulness rooted deep within the human heart. The blood and ashes of the sin offering demonstrate how sin is dealt with and how it is completed with conviction within the cross of Christ. Introduction The sacrifices in Leviticus are broadly divided into voluntary and mandatory offerings. While the burnt offering, grain offering, and peace offering represent voluntary devotion and fellowship offered to God, the sin offering and trespass offering are mandatory offerings intended to handle the punishment and responsibility for sin. Through the sin offering, this lecture examines how deep and universal a problem human sin is, and how God has opened the way for its resolution. First. Sins Committed by Mistake The sin offering addresses not only sins committed intentionally but also sins committed unwittingly and unconsciously. This demonstrates that even with good intentions, humans can deviate from God's standards due to their inner sinfulness. Just as a curved arrow misses the target no matter how well it is aimed, this reveals that human nature itself harbors the problem of sin. Second. The Duality of Sin The Bible distinguishes sin into the singular form, namely the sinfulness residing within, and the plural form, namely sinful acts manifested through behavior. Sinful acts are like the fruit, and the sinfulness is like the root that produces that fruit. Even born-again believers must confront the sinfulness that still remains within the flesh, and they must continually confess their daily sins before God and be cleansed. Third. Two Parts of Sacrifice The voluntary offering is a fragrant sacrifice accepted by God and entering into His fellowship, whereas the obligatory offering is a heavy sacrifice that deals with the punishment and price for sin. The sin offering demonstrates that sin cannot be merely dismissed as emotional remorse, but that the price of life must necessarily be paid. This principle is connected to the event where Jesus Christ was rejected by God on the cross and bore the punishment outside the camp. Fourth. Universal Sin The sin offering in Leviticus Chapter 4 includes all classes, from priests and the entire congregation to patriarchs, leaders, and ordinary commoners. This demonstrates that among the descendants of Adam, no one is exempt from the problem of sin. While the quantity of outwardly manifested sins may differ, everyone equally requires God's grace and the atonement of bloodshed in the face of the sinful nature within humanity. Fifth: The Disposal of Blood and Ashes In the sin offering, blood is applied to the veil of the Most Holy Place, the horns of the altar of incense, and the horns of the altar of burnt offerings, while the remainder is poured out at the base of the altar. This serves as a sign that there is no forgiveness without the shedding of blood, and that the price for sin has been fully paid. Furthermore, the scene of disposing of the ashes in a clean place outside the camp signifies that judgment has completely ended and leads to the assurance of the gospel that Jesus Christ bore our judgment on our behalf outside the camp. Conclusion The sin offering demonstrates that human sin is not merely a matter of behavior, but a problem of deep-seated sinfulness. However, God did not cover up that sin, but showed the way to a complete resolution through blood and ashes. When we see the blood of the cross, we are convinced that our sin has been dealt with, and when we see the ashes, we can believe that judgment upon us has ended. Therefore, rather than remaining bound by past guilt, we must live holding onto the grace that has been completely resolved in Christ.
