Who Fears to Speak of '98?
"September 9th was the date, The year was '98, A day that went down in history. In a place called Ballinamuck, The rebels caused a ruck', When they fought for their chance to be free..." Who Fears to Speak of '98, is a video documenting the bicentennial commemorations of the Battle of Ballinamuck - the final battle of the 1798 rising. From August 28th to September 5th 1998, a number of events took place in Ballinamuck to mark this significant anniversary, including: the official opening of the 1798 Garden of Remembrance, demonstrations of traditional skills, football as it was played 100 years ago and a re-enactment of the Battle of Ballinamuck. The entire parish participated in the commemoration, including many members of the club.
