This legend, still widespread and much-told today, is tied to the very place where a fascinating yellow and mauve-colored stone is found: ametrine. Watching this film will take you on an adventurous excursion that will take you to the heart of a little-known country: Bolivia. After several days of sailing on the Paraguay River, home to the world's largest population of crocodiles and piranhas, you will discover a remote spot in the heart of the Chaco tropical forest. Here, in the very south of the country, wild animals and mosquitoes seem to rule the roost. Bolivian miners, with extensive experience in underground mining, make a fabulous discovery: with a diameter of several hundred square meters, one of the largest known geodes, its walls adorned with enormous crystals. Isolated from the world, the teams take turns mining the gemstones, sorting them, and shipping them to Santa Cruz. In this city, the raw crystals are processed in a factory into beautifully cut gemstones, which are then shipped to various cities in the country and around the world. The journey of ametrine leads through Bolivia and thus also through its lavish festivals, such as the Oururo Carnival. In the USA, the gemstones are sold at the world's largest gemstone market in Tucson, Arizona. This is also where Lorenz Baümer, the jeweler from Place Vendôme in Paris, purchases these rare stones to embellish his creations.
