There are two ways to do this horizontal vanilla stitch. First, I'm going to show you the easiest way because if you want to knit a scarf, a collar, a poncho, or something simple that doesn't require you to think about shaping it, which is what everyone is afraid of, the vanilla stitch over the snake stitch is ideal because you knit everything wrong without thinking. The wider you want the vanilla stitch, the more rows I'll make in that stitch. I like the vanilla stitch with two rows because it's more delicate, noticeable, and looks prettier. I'll also share a secret with you to make both ends even, because otherwise, one side always ends up more open, larger, and not as neat. And the other way to do the vanilla stitch is when I want to do it over the right side of the sweater and I enhance it with a purl stitch.
