Actress Nana Komatsu attended the awards ceremony for the 90th Kinema Junpo Best Ten (hosted by Kinema Junpo Co., Ltd.) held in Tokyo on February 5th. Komatsu, who won the Best New Actress award for her roles in "Drowning Love" and "Destruction Babies," revealed, "The works that were recognized were filmed in order the year before last. It was a year where I fought with all my heart and soul, to the point where my mind couldn't keep up. The set of 'Drowning Love' was so tough I thought I might spit up blood." She added emotionally, "I'm grateful that I was able to do that in my last year as a teenager and play the role of Natsume among such a wonderful cast." In "Drowning Love," Komatsu played Natsume, a teen magazine model from the city, and in "Destruction Babies," she played Nana, a girl caught up in the reckless behavior of young people. Reflecting on her role as Natsume, Komatsu commented, "It was a set where I laid everything bare, running with single-minded dedication, but being able to play this role in my last year as a teenager has made it a very important work for me." She also expressed her determination, saying, "I want to continue working hard without sparing any effort." The "Kinema Junpo Best Ten" is a film award with a long history, one more than the Academy Awards. This year, the awards were selected by the magazine's selection committee for films released in 2016. The Best Japanese Film award went to the animated film "In This Corner of the World" (directed by Sunao Katabuchi), based on the manga by Fumiyo Kono. This is the first time an animated film has been selected for this award since "My Neighbor Totoro" in 1988, 28 years ago.
