Today I’m doing the unthinkable. As a Mackem through and through, I’m crossing the border to spend a full day exploring our rivals' city. We started the morning in Sunderland and hopped on the Metro through to Newcastle Monument. The mission? To see if the Toon actually lives up to the hype—or if I’m just counting down the minutes until I can get back over the bridge. We hit all the big spots: the Monument, some proper street food in the Grainger Market, the old Castle ruins, and a walk through China Town. I even headed up to St. James' Park and risked a pint in The Strawberry—easily one of the most notorious Newcastle fans' pubs in the city. Let’s just say a Sunderland lad in there isn't exactly the norm. We finished the day at the Cathedral and the Quayside to see the bridges.
