Welches sind die besten Multifokallinsen? Welche Alternativen gibt es?

The first well-functioning multifocal lens (MIOL), a trifocal lens, is presented, which has been considered the "gold standard" since its market launch in 2013. It took until later for other lenses with comparable functionality to come onto the market. We examine the criteria for evaluating multifocal lenses (achieving independence from glasses, side effects) and the basis for assessing/classifying them as the best MIOL (study results, specialist opinions, and our own many years of experience as a surgeon). As an alternative to MIOLs, so-called EDOF lenses ("extended depth of focus") have become established in recent years – and, more recently, the combination of these new premium lenses with a trifocal MIOL in the fellow eye. The latter, in particular, requires a great deal of expertise and experience on the part of the surgeon, who should consider the patient's wishes as well as potential special features and risks in order to achieve an optimal, individualized result.
