Why I don't talk about politics or social issues
Just as yours, my heart goes out to the innocent and suffering people of Ukraine and Russia at this time... and to the other wars around the globe that are underreported. And yet, you might have noticed that I rarely post anything about it, nor about the many important societal or political issues in the past few years. I wish to be an example of someone who does not post social/political stuff – for all of you out there who might sometimes feel guilty about not posting about such things. ** 00:00 - The video addresses feelings of guilt or being tone-deaf for not posting about social and political issues. 00:15 - The speaker shares a background of active political involvement, particularly with the Green Party in college. 01:24 - Reflecting on political efforts, the speaker realizes the limited impact made and ponders the potential benefits of investing that time into personal skill development. 02:19 - The speaker suggests that focusing on building personal skills and audience would have led to greater professional influence and impact. 03:25 - Explains the conscious decision not to post about politics or social issues, emphasizing a focus on personal and professional development. 04:49 - Politics is increasingly confusing for the speaker, who has shifted from Green Party to Democrat, and now identifies more with libertarian views. 06:26 - The speaker's political journey reflects a change in understanding the effectiveness of different political ideologies. 09:01 - Acknowledges the complexity and confusion in politics, leading to a reluctance to post political opinions due to uncertainty. 10:01 - Emphasizes focusing on areas of direct impact and expertise, like career and personal growth, rather than engaging in political discourse. 11:24 - Despite current global events like the Ukraine-Russia war, chooses to focus content on topics like authentic business success and joyful productivity. 13:01 - The speaker expresses skepticism about the accuracy and biases in different news sources, leading to confusion about what to believe. 15:32 - Argues that personal success and development can indirectly contribute to social causes more effectively than direct political activism. 17:11 - Highlights the divisive nature of political posts on social media and advocates for focusing on mental health and unity. 19:26 - The speaker is willing to be perceived as callous or insensitive for not engaging in social media activism, prioritizing different methods of influence. 21:16 - Encourages focusing on areas of direct experience and expertise to positively influence others, rather than engaging in political debates. 22:15 - The video concludes with a call to focus on self-improvement and positively impacting one's immediate circle, emphasizing the complexity and uncertainty in politics.
