In a Tuesday interview with "Kanał Zero," former physician at Warsaw's Southern Hospital, Emil Jędrzejewski, revealed a series of serious irregularities allegedly occurring at the facility. One of them was a medical error that led to the death of a patient. On the TVN24 program "Tak jest" (Tak jest), Dr. Jędrzejewski's successor as head of surgery at Southern Hospital, Piotr Szenk, said that when he took over the department, he found "nothing out of the ordinary." When asked by Rafał Wojda what he would do if he learned of a medical error that resulted in the death of a patient, Piotr Szenk replied that he would have to notify the emergency services and then the hospital management. "This is a consequence of the Penal Code: anyone who knows about a possible crime and fails to report it is subject to punishment," he explained. Piotr Szenk also commented extensively on reports of creative accounting, the use of which was supposed to secure his predecessor a high bonus. He also explained the realities of so-called surgical consultations in the Emergency Department, pointing out the related tensions between surgeons and Emergency Department staff. He also admitted that Southern Hospital was aware of the conflict between Emil Jędrzejewski and Emergency Department coordinator Dawid Kacprzyk, whose exceptionally high salary was the first element of the scandal at the facility to be revealed.
