Construction of the Leshan Giant Buddha dates back to the Tang Dynasty, around 700 AD. The Leshan Giant Buddha was first discovered by a monk named Haitong, who traveled to Sichuan and discovered that Mount Leshan is located at the crossroads of three rivers. Boat accidents and deaths were frequent, leading to Haitong's intention to build a large Buddha statue at this spot to protect travelers. Following this, devout Buddhists spent another 70 years working hard to complete the statue. Buddhists from various regions have come to pay homage and seek peace of mind. The Leshan Giant Buddha has even been blindfolded four times, each time China has faced loss and disaster.
