Special thanks to Kenny Claiborne and Craig Klein. Tuba Fats Anthony Lacen was born in Charity Hospital New Orleans in 1950 to Leola & Johnny Lacen. They lived uptown near the old Dew Drop Inn. Tuba Fats's introduction to music was at McDonogh 36 Elementary School under the direction of Alvin Thomas and then with Walter Payton. He has played with virtually all the New Orleans brass bands in the last few decades: Gibson, Doc Paulin, Olympia, Tuxedo, and was one of the founding members of the Dirty Dozen. Tuba Fats has travelled extensively with his music and performed on numerous occasions in Europe, Far East, Australia, South America and Russia.
