KTLS18: Guy Standing on Work, Inequality & the Precariat

This interview with Guy Standing, recorded at the King's Transnational Law Summit 2018, explores whether theories of Universal Basic Income (UBI) are robust enough to really offer millions of people a way out of poverty. He also discusses the emerging social and psychological problems that precarious working conditions have wrought. Guy Standing is a Professorial Research Associate at SOAS, University of London, and a founder and co-President of the Basic Income Earth Network (BIEN), an NGO promoting basic income as a right. He was previously Director of the Socio-Economic Security Programme of the International Labour Organisation. He is currently working on pilot basic income schemes and on issues relating to his two recent books, The Precariat: The New Dangerous Class (2011) and A Precariat Charter: From Denizens to Citizens (2014).
