The Ethics Illusion: Decision-Making in Vietnam’s Banking and Finance Sector
This video summary examines the ethical decision-making processes of banking and finance professionals compared to students within the Vietnamese financial sector. Utilizing eight specific ethical vignettes, researchers measured how these two groups perceive and react to dilemmas such as insider trading, fraud, and privacy violations. The study reveals that students generally demonstrate higher ethical sensitivity than experienced professionals, who may be more influenced by the economic realities of the workplace. Additionally, the study evaluates the impact of targeted ethics training, finding that such education significantly improves the moral scores of students but has a less substantial effect on working adults. The authors advocate for enhanced ethics education and tailored corporate training to foster more responsible behavior in the banking industry. The video is based on the work of Ngo, Fisher, and Mujtaba (2014), entitled "Ethical decision-making of banking and finance professionals and student," published in the Asian Journal of Business Ethics, volume 3.
