44 Choräle zum Präambulieren -JOHANN CHRISTOPH BACH
🎹 44 CHORÄLE ZUM PRÄAMBULIEREN - JOHANN CHRISTOPH BACH I invite you to immerse yourself in the attentive and meditative listening of the celebrated collection "44 Choräle zum Präambulieren" by Johann Christoph Bach (1642-1703), the legendary "uncle" of J.S. Bach, whose work was deeply admired for its immense expressive power. The term Präambulieren points to the original liturgical function of these pieces: short and profound preludes intended to introduce the singing of the chorales. The Brazilian organist Jefferson Ribeiro brings to this monumental recording, realized through the GrandOrgue software, the revival of the essence of Klangrede, the Baroque concept of music as an articulated discourse, a true language spoken through sounds. In this approach, he moves completely away from a metronomic, rigid, or purely scholastic execution. The counterpoint here speaks, declaims, questions, and confesses. Each musical phrase has been treated from a rhetorical and phenomenological perspective, where the flexibility of time and the articulation of silences seek the same expressiveness and warmth of the human voice. 📷 THE VIDEO IMAGES: THE INSTRUMENT IN FOCUS To accompany the rigor, sobriety, and deep spirituality that this work demands, the visual layout of the video consists exclusively of real photographs of the instrument itself, presented in black and white. Throughout the listening experience, you will contemplate the details of the imposing Baroque facade carved by J.F. Fromiller in 1748, the historical pipes, and the statues of Saint Cecilia (patron saint of musicians) and King David crowning the original case in Austria. The black-and-white aesthetic was deliberately chosen to strip the experience of everyday chromatic distractions, keeping the listener's absolute focus on the substance and ontology of the music. 🏛️ HISTORICAL AND ACOUSTIC CONTEXT The voice that gives life to this project belongs to the organ built by Johann Cyriacus Werner in 1743, located in the Pfarrkirche (Parish Church of Saint Nicholas) in Straßburg, in the Carinthia region, Austria, a temple erected between 1432 and 1460. With its original pipework virtually intact for over 280 years, the instrument preserves the authentic timbre, harmonic rawness, and integrity of the historical tuning of the period, having been restored by Orgelbau Pirchner in 1969. Of note is the Kontrabaß 16′ stop in the Pedal, which features its own bellows installed behind the main case, with the pipe mouths facing the church wall, generating a deep, physical resonance of rare depth. 🎧 LISTENING RECOMMENDATION To fully perceive the subtleties of rhetorical articulation, the attack of each pipe, and the natural decay of the sound within the stone acoustics of the Austrian church, the use of good quality headphones or a high-fidelity sound system is expressly recommended. Let yourself be guided by the breath of each piece. Enjoy the listening!
