Frank Luther 'The Three Billygoats Gruff' 1948 78 rpm

Frank Luther's classic version of the fairy-tale was a much played request on BBC radio's 'Children's Favourites' and Junior Choice' from 1954 until 1984. Recorded on 29th December 1947 and released in 1948 this is a later pressing from around 1955, it was also released on a 45 rpm record in 1960. In his early 20's Frank was ordained, in 1927 he joined a popular quartet The Revellers, they toured the UK meeting the Duchess of York, later Queen Elizabeth, The Prince Of Wales, later Edward VIII joined them on drums. On his return to the States he contracted a serious sinus infection and was unable to sing for a year. He teamed up with Carson Robison in 1928 recording many popular songs. He also recorded under the name Bud Billings issued by Zonophone in the UK. He also recorded with many dance bands up to the outbreak of the war. during the 30's he made a number of children's records for Decca, Once the dance band appearances had dried up he became Decca's goto artist for children's songs and stories. He continued to record mainly children's songs for various labels into the 1970's. He died in 1980.
