The Datoga Tribes of Tanzania in Lake Eyasi

Our guide during our visit with the Datoga community was hosted by Willy who was very knowledgeable about the region. Through him we also met Julius who showed us around the Datoga village and introduced us to the people who live here. The Datoga tribes consider themselves to be one of the oldest tribes of Tanzania along with the Masai and the Hadzabe tribes. They are Nilotic and said to have originated from South Sudan and the Ethiopian highlands around 3000 years ago. They are very skilful people known for their blacksmith skills, and making jewellery while also supplying arrowheads to the Hadzabes.
