Cesarean Delivery | Preoperative Preparation, Procedure & Postoperative care | Nursing Lecture

𝗖𝗲𝘀𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 is to be performed first by laparotomy and then by hysterotomy, here the preoperative preparation, procedure, and aftercare are explained. 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 - 1 NBM for 6-8 hrs. 2 Preoperative medicines like antacids and antibiotic prophylaxis. 3 Prior informed consent 4 Bladder emptied by foley catheter 5 Fetal maturity to be ascertained, before elective surgery 6 Check all instruments, sponges, and needles before and after surgery for surgical safety 7 Dorsal position with left lateral tilt 15 degrees to avoid vena cava compression and hypotension. 8 Blood tests- CBC, blood grouping, and crossmatching 9 Abdomen and perineal painting with chlorhexidine and povidone and iodine lotions. 10 Part preparation- hair clipping 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗿𝗲 - The most common incision is the LSCS transverse, where Pfannenstiel incision is a common technique through which incision is given. Structures that are being cut while giving an abdomen incision are - -𝑺𝒌𝒊𝒏 -𝑺𝒖𝒃𝒄𝒖𝒕𝒂𝒏𝒆𝒐𝒖𝒔 𝒕𝒊𝒔𝒔𝒖𝒆𝒔 -𝑨𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒐𝒓 𝒓𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒖𝒔 𝒔𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒕𝒉 -𝑹𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒖𝒔 𝒂𝒃𝒅𝒐𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒊𝒔 𝒎𝒖𝒔𝒄𝒍𝒆 (𝑵𝒐𝒕 𝒃𝒆𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒄𝒖𝒕 𝒐𝒏𝒍𝒚 𝒔𝒆𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒅) -𝑻𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒔𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒔 𝒇𝒂𝒔𝒄𝒊𝒂 -𝑷𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒐𝒏𝒆𝒖𝒎 -𝑴𝒚𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒕𝒓𝒊𝒖𝒎 -𝑫𝒆𝒄𝒊𝒅𝒖𝒂 -𝑨𝒎𝒏𝒊𝒐𝒕𝒊𝒄 𝒎𝒆𝒎𝒃𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒆 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲 - Vitals, urine output, bleeding, and uterine tone must be checked before shifting to the postoperative ward. Breastfeeding on the same day of surgery. Remove Foley catheter after 12 hrs of surgery. Analgesics for pain management. Discharged by day 3 or 4 in uncomplicated cases. Metal staples can be removed by day 4. The first week should limit the activities for self and baby care only.
