how a photographer can make the most out of a travel job.
1:1 sessions, book here: https://calendly.com/coryphoto/1hr I was recently commissioned to shoot a family on the other side of the country in Malibu. a wonderful gig that covered flight, accommodation, travel and the things in between. Since I don’t normally spend time in LA on the west coast the fist thing I thought of was how can I maximize the most out of my travel. Who can I shoot? who can I collaborate with? How can I efficiently maximize my time while I am over there and get some great new work for my portfolio. I had about 2 weeks to figure it out so I went to e-mail, social media, and friends. i started with friends and friends of friend that either lived in LA or knew people out there, then I BLASTED social media and reached out to about 50 people that I admired and wanted to work with. After a few days, I heard nothing. Crickets. I’ll be honest, as the date approached I wasn’t getting too lucky. Then I reached out to artist management companies, and reps that worked with artists. After a week I got a couple of interested people but I stuck with it. Kept my daily reach outs a thing and with only a few days before my travels I was overwhelmed with opportunity and amazing subjects to shoot. My plan was to travel from thursday-monday and before I left I had 9 bookings, in only 5 days of being in the city. One thing I will gloss over here is all the logistics of prepping this. up until the day I left I was doing back and forths for a few hours a day trying to wiggle everyone into a nice gap so I could completely pack my time in. It was a tad stressful, but anyone who is a professional photographer knows, we are professionals trouble shooters and problem solvers. So I kind of enjoyed controlling this chaos. Let’s go day by day. nft's: https://opensea.io/coryphoto prints: https://coryphoto.myshopify.com/ 1:1 sessions, book here: https://calendly.com/coryphoto/1hr post production tips: cropping: • how to properly crop in photoshop skin retouching: • skin retouching made easy. skin tones and color correction: • skin tones in photoshop, color grading mad... film grain: • film grain in photoshop, natural grain mad... properly export: • how to batch export from photoshop. simplifying an image: • simplify your photos, easy tricks to make ... follow me: instagram: / coryphoto twitter: / coryphoto website: http://www.coryvanderploeg.com/
