"TS20xx Classic"Sächsiche IV K / Preßnitztalbahn (DDR)

The next video on the channel focuses on the Saxon IV K locomotive of the Preßnitz Valley Railway. Today we're taking a trip back to the days when it still ran the entire length of the Preßnitz Valley and enjoying the charm of 750mm narrow-gauge railway romance in the former GDR. The video covers the route of the "Preßnitz Valley Railway" from Wolkenstein to Jöhstadt. ... Downloads: Preßnitztalbahn Wolkenstein-Jöhstadt 2.43f: https://rail-sim.de/forum/filebase/en... About the vehicle: The Royal Saxon State Railways designated the locomotives as Saxon IV K (pronounced: four K) from 1900 onwards. Four-axle Günther-Meyer narrow-gauge steam locomotives with a 750 mm track gauge. With 96 units built, the Saxon IVK is the most numerous narrow-gauge (steam) locomotive ever produced for a state railway in Germany. The Deutsche Reichsbahn (German State Railway) classified these locomotives as Class 99.51–60 in 1925. Due to the steadily increasing traffic on the Saxon narrow-gauge railways towards the end of the 19th century, the performance of the Saxon IK, IIK, and IIIK locomotives soon became insufficient. The Saxon Machine Factory subsequently developed a locomotive with four driven axles, featuring a larger boiler and greater adhesive mass (based on the Saxon M I TV developed in 1890 for standard gauge). Unlike the locomotives used previously, these were equipped with two powered bogies to enable them to navigate curved tracks despite their length. Between 1892 and 1921, a total of 96 locomotives, numbered 103 to 198, were put into service. Initially, they were designated HMTKV, indicating that they were manufactured by Hartmann (H), of the Meyer type (M), as tank locomotives (T) with a 750 mm gauge (K) and compound drive (V). From 1896, they were designated KIV, and from 1900, IVK. The "K" stands for "Kleinspur" (small gauge). The IVK locomotives were used for passenger, freight, and mixed trains and proved so successful that they replaced the other locomotive classes (IK, IIK, and IIIK) on almost all lines. . ... A total of 22 locomotives of the Saxon Class IV K have survived to this day, some of them operational. In addition to the Saxon museum railway associations, the Saxon Steam Railway Company (formerly BVO Bahn) and Döllnitzbahn GmbH also maintain Class IV K locomotives for special excursions with museum trains.
