Painful Urination in Young Men: UTI or STD?

Learn to tell the difference between the symptoms of a sexually transmitted disease (STD) and a urinary tract infection (UTI). Both can cause painful urination in men, but the approach is very different in young, sexually active men versus older men. In this video, I will discuss UTIs caused mainly by E.coli and urethritis caused by sexually transmitted infections (STIs) like gonorrhea and chlamydia. You will learn to interpret symptoms like dysuria, urethral discharge, frequent urination, urgency, fever, flank pain, pelvic pain, and perineal pain. Gram stain of urethral discharge, urine PCR for N. gonorrhoeae and C. trachomatis, and basic urinalysis are the diagnostic tests you are likely to use. All of this will help you make the correct diagnosis quickly! Note: Links to courses and additional materials are currently unavailable. The website is undergoing changes and updates.
