Minidisc VLOG - 01: Elegant Lies
My MD journey started in late 1999. 2000 struck with a dead Sharp MD recorder and a quick run back to ON/OFF to grab a Sony MZ-R37. I've been a fan, a total fawn, and a lover ever since. I'm also a realist. MD is fraught with bad encoding, poor portable hardware, atrocious marketing, and a fanbase that would make Fujifilm's X camera crowd look logical, consistent, and well behaved. In short, MD drew people in. Was it its underdog status vis-a-vis MP3 players? Or was it blatant marketing lies prior to that? Whatever it was, some of us are still there, loving minidisk, and some others of us love it whilst face slapping the entire way. I'm both, but I love MD. This is the first in a series of reviews, VLOGs, and shallow dives into the performance, potential, and ultimate failure of the format.
