The look of the character Harry Osborn was defined by costume designer James Acheson as a cross between a SWAT uniform and the idea of ​​a dark knight with a sophisticated board and blades on his arms. These blades were first designed on the computer, then manufactured, polished and assembled in a way that made them look real. The helmet was first painted with a black base, then covered with a texture similar to Kevlar and finished with several layers. The new glider, on the other hand, gained a lighter design with automatic components. Three versions of the board were made. One of them was attached to a hydraulic seesaw and was used with the actor in front of a blue background. Another lighter model was created to be suspended by cables, at a height of up to 18 meters. A plank attached to a circular platform was also used, allowing for natural-looking movements in various directions. One of the many challenges of this third film was the number of moments where the characters would be unmasked in action scenes, often in aerial combat, such as the initial confrontation between Peter Parker and the new Green Goblin. Director Sam Raimi wanted to show the actors' faces, both to achieve more realism and to emphasize the personal side of the scene, in this case, the confrontation between friends. Since about 90 percent of the real action in Spider-Man 3 would have to involve the use of cables, a system was developed where the equipment that suspended the actors was computer-controlled. Around 10 winches could be used, working with 60 axes capable of simulating flight or falls, performing almost any type of movement. Often computer graphics would still be necessary, and it's not easy to make the transition between real action and CGI effects. But the intention this time was to make better use of the work with actors or stuntmen, even if only as a reference. The first confrontation with the new Green Goblin is an example of combining different techniques, mainly the work done with people suspended by cables and the use of digital doubles, often replacing only the faces with images of the actors recorded in a studio. In the set design, images of real buildings were digitally manipulated and multiplied. In the alley scene, for example, about 13 buildings were transformed into hundreds of buildings.
