In this episode of Ek Vaat Kau, Goonj Thakkar explains the recently launched NPS Vatsalya Scheme. NPS Vatsalya is a pension scheme for children up to 18 years of age. Contributions can be made by guardians with a minimum of Rs. 1000 per year and no maximum limit. Accounts can be opened online or in person at banks, post offices, or through the eNPS platform. Investment options range from aggressive (75% equity) to conservative (25% equity), with an option for active choice where allocation is decided by the guardian. The scheme matures when the child reaches 18 years of age, with options for full or partial withdrawal, or conversion to a regular NPS account. Premature withdrawal of up to 25% of the contribution is allowed after a 3-year lock-in period. Historical data suggests potential returns of 11.59% for moderate and 12.86% for aggressive investment options. Based on calculations with a 12.86% return, a monthly contribution of Rs. 1500 starting at age 3 could result in a corpus of Rs. 8.13 lakh at age 18, with options for withdrawal and annuity purchase.
