In Russia, an exiled media outlet exploited a security breach in a Kremlin digital platform to publish nearly 9,500 letters from Russian soldiers. Behind the Kremlin's propaganda and the advertisements of smiling soldiers sent to the front, the reality is quite different. Alexandra Arkhipova, a Russian ethnologist living in exile in France, and her psychologist husband, gained access to these soldiers' letters. "They are not complaining about the Ukrainians, but about their own military commanders. They write about the abuse they have suffered and, in effect, denounce the Russian army's self-aggression," she explained in an interview with Le Monde. This wealth of testimonies proves that the army sends untrained recruits to the front, conceals losses, and uses torture against soldiers who dare to question orders. Many soldiers also denounce widespread corruption on the front lines. What are the real living conditions of Russian soldiers on the front?
