According to its 'Feed roller' the maximum width to skive or split leather pieces is of 50 mm. Wider pieces are split with 'Leather splitting machines'. Big ones in the tannery for full leather hides and smaller machines for pieces 45 cm wide approx. It is possible to skive wider pieces with a 'Leather skiving machine' though. To do it so, it is necessary to follow certain tips explained in this video. As mentioned before, this machine is not only useful for shoemakers or leather artisans but for us the car trimmers who sometimes need to reduce in thickness the edges of leather material to achieve perfect car upholstery projects.
