No flower on earth has a richer blue than the pure color of its breastplate. So it is in the high spiritual sphere. The most complete spiritual beauty can be obtained in the shortest time, and the young man can die a hundred years old, in character and grace.” —History by David Brainerd GOD has not limited Himself to Bible days in showing what can be done through prayer. In modern times, too, He is seen as the same prayer-hearing God He was before. Even in these latter days, He has not been left without witness. Both religious biography and Church history furnish us with many noble examples and striking illustrations of prayer, its necessity, its value, and its fruits, all of which tend to stimulate the faith of God's saints and impel them to pray more and better. God has not limited Himself to Old and New Testament times in employing men of prayer as His agents in advancing His cause on earth, and He has placed Himself under an obligation to answer their prayers just as He did the saints of old. A selection of these praying saints of modern times will show us how they valued prayer, what it meant to them, and what it meant to God. Take, for example, the case of Samuel Rutherford, the Scottish preacher, exiled to the north of Scotland, forbidden to preach, and banished from his home and his pastoral office. Rutherford lived between 1600 and 1661. He was a member of the Westminster Assembly, warden of New College, and chancellor of the University of St. Andrews. He is said to have been one of the most moving and affectionate preachers of his time, or perhaps of any era in the Church. Men said of him, “He is always praying,” and concerning his prayer and that of his wife, someone wrote: “He who had heard either of them pray or speak might have learned to regret his ignorance. Oh, how often have I been convinced by observing them of the evil of insincerity before God and of lack of taste in speech! He prayed for his people in such a manner that he himself says, ‘There I wrestled with the Angel and prevailed.’” ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- #audiobook #Christian #healingdoctrine #reformedtheology #healingtheology #bibleteaching #wayofholiness #prayer #truth #life #jesus #sin #lionofthetribeofjudah #hangingonwood #pilgrim #embounds #emboundsinspanish
