Millions of people took to the streets to resist the government's attacks with water cannons and tear gas. Eight young people were killed and tens of thousands of citizens were injured in this resistance. Following then-Prime Minister Tayyip Erdoğan's "Artillery Barracks" visit, construction equipment moved to Gezi Park in Taksim. On May 28, 2013, activists who learned that the trees in Gezi Park would be uprooted went to Taksim.
