Building with structurally insulated panels (SIPS) | Church Farm Ep2
#siphouse #sippanelconstruction #structuralinsulatedpanels Building an eco-friendly housing development - construction using structural insulated panels (SIPS) Church Farm is an eco-friendly housing development being built primarily out of SIPS, structurally insulated panels. This series aims to document the building of the Church Fram housing development using SIPS. In this episode Andrew McMillan updates us on the SIPS construction project covering designing SIPS houses, the groundworks for the SIPS houses, and the manufacture of the SIPS panels. Andrew discusses the challenges of building with structurally insulated panels, including the longer design period for SIPS construction projects and the coordinating of all the different suppliers. Plus, some complications that arise from trying to stick with the original design that include dwarf walls, exposed concrete and installation of the steelwork. Additionally, Andrew discusses the challenges of working onsite and dealing with severe weather conditions. We also include a trip to SIPS@Clays to see how the SIPS panels are manufactured. We'll be sharing a more detailed film of our trip to see Ian Clay at his facility in the near future. Lastly, we introduce what we'll be covering in the next episodes of the Church Farm project, including: Catnic's Standing Seam Roof, Siberian larch from Russwood for the SIPS houses' exteriors, and the window installaltion from Velfac.
