In written sources, the name of the Shu River is first mentioned in the memoirs of the Buddhist monk Xuanzang. This monk was not only a wandering preacher and a spy of the Tang Empire, but also, in modern terms, a travel blogger. Xuanzang crossed the Amag pass in the Tien Shan mountains, passed by Issyk-Kul, and thus reached the city of Suyab, where the kagan of the Western Turkic Khaganate spent the winter. The city of Suyab was located in the valley of the Suyab River of the same name. Later, this river changed its course and name several times. Its name continued to be: Suyab, Sui, Zhu, Shu. However, if you listen carefully, you will realize that these words have a common root. The words "Shu" and "su" mean "river" or "water" in different languages. The meaning of this name is deep.
