We boarded the Kokudo Yonkū Ferry (N94 Ferry) for the first time—taking our car across the sea from Misaki Port (Ehime, Shikoku) to Saganoseki Port (Oita, Kyushu) in about 70 minutes. And yes… we went right in the middle of Obon holiday peak season, so the waiting lines, parking congestion, and boarding flow were far more intense than we expected. Before the ferry day, we stopped in Yawatahama for a local favorite: Ishiyaki Chanpon (stone-grilled chanpon noodles). After arriving in Kyushu, we celebrated with a “reward lunch” at Saganoseki’s famous fish—Sekiaji (horse mackerel) and Sekisaba (mackerel).
