The Outlaw Trail | Robert Redford Documentary (1978)

In 1976, National Geographic asked the late Robert Redford to follow in the footsteps of the Wild West’s greatest outlaws. Redford rode horseback along the Outlaw Trail, the legendary route stretching from northern Montana to Mexico, once used by Butch Cassidy, the Sundance Kid, and other fugitives. Along the way, he encountered remote ranches, weathered ghost towns, and landscapes that shaped both heroes and fugitives. Redford wrote an article about this adventure in the November 1976 issue of National Geographic that accompanied this feature documentary and companion book, The Outlaw Trail: Journey Through Time. Produced by Richard Drewett and directed by Alan Ravenscroft, 1978.
