This is the first time Apple offers a larger version of a non Pro iPhone model. This is exciting because I think the iPhone 14 is the best value option for most people to buy, and now for $100 more you get a bigger display, and what Apple call the best battery life ever in an iPhone. iPhone 14 Plus, 128gb, Midnight, $899 / £949. $100 more compared to iPhone 14, which has 6.1” display. iPhone 14 Plus had 6.7” display, same as new iPhone 14 Pro Max. Midnight colour, almost black, in sun dark blue undertones shine. Same squared of design as from iPhone 13 - I love this. Aerospace aluminium frame, held up well on my iPhone 13. US models have no sim tray, supporting eSIM. Ceramic Shield, is crack resistant but does scratch easily. Apple says iPhone 14 Plus has best battery life of any iPhone, with 26hrs of video playback, compared to 20hrs on iPhone 14. This sounds really impressive but of course I will be thoroughly testing this, and share my real world use results in my upcoming review - let me know if you’d like to see a battery life comparison video between all iPhone 14 models? A15 Bionic, same as iPhone 13 but now with 5 core GPU (from 13 Pro to 14 14 Plus). 18% faster. Would I have liked to see the A16 from iPhone Pros? Yes but the A15 is a beast and should run smooth for years to come! So what are the biggest new features brought to the iPhone 14 Plus and is it worth upgrading to? The biggest appeal of the iPhone 14 Plus, is you get Pro Max size phone at a much lower cost. Not the same phone, yes, but does share bigger screen and bigger battery. Plus the iPhone 14. Plus also brings: big camera upgrade. 12mp main: larger sensor and pixels, F1.5 (faster aperture). 49% improvement in low light, night mode twice as fast. Action mode, even better stabilisation in video. Crash detection (same from Apple Watch). Detect if you’re in a car crash and call emergency services. Hope to never need but reassuring to have. Emergency SOS via satellite. Allows you to connect to a satellite from anywhere, even without cell service to send a message and ask for help. Free for 2 years with iPhone 14 (starts in US and Canada). Is all of this enough reason to upgrade from iPhone 13? Not for most, unless you want that bigger formfacter. But most will be coming from iPhone 8, X or 11. In which case the iPhone 14 is a very big upgrade! Also, if you are currently using an iPhone 8+ or 11 Pro Max, the iPhone 14 Plus is a better value way to get the newest model iPhone and retain that larger display and battery for a much lower price.
