Freddie Mercury GARDEN LODGE the history with interior his beloved home!Full story in description👇
Description 🇬🇧 and 🇮🇹 The house was designed by architect Ernest William Marshall and built in a neo-Georgian style. Consisting of two floors and an attic, it originally had 8 bedrooms and a study wing with a pediment and a large bay window. The builders were M. Calnan and Son of Commercial Road. The property is included in an acre of garden surrounded and protected by a wall about 3 and a half meters high, which reaches 4 and a half meters with the new protections erected after Freddie's death. Rae occupied the house from its completion until his death in 1935, Halford survived him and lived there until his death in 1938. British intelligence agent Tomás Harris and his wife Hilda moved here during WWII and have housed many MI5 and SIS employees on the property. Freddie Mercury bought the house for £500,000 cash from a member of the Hoare family in the late 1980s. Before living there, Freddie had numerous changes made, eliminating some rooms to create larger rooms. He had floors, bathrooms, systems and ceilings redone with very expensive quality materials. One of the most particular works was the bedroom ceiling consisting of a multicolor backlit artistic glass inspired by one of the famous rooms of the Biba boutique, where Freddie met Mary. Another peculiarity is in the garden and is the artificial lake for koi, Japanese ornamental carp. Gorgeous fish that I personally adore. Freddie fell in love with them on his first trip to Japan and also wanted them at his house. Mary inherited Garden Lodge and moved there with her family a few months after Freddie's death. Among the photos, some very old dating back to the old property. I costruttori erano M. Calnan e Son of Commercial Road.
