To Gujo Hachiman in winter. A season of few sounds. As the bustle of people quietly fades away, I can truly feel the warmth in this town. Putting my hands into freezing water—the cold-water treatment. There, I heard just one phrase. ‘It’s my job, after all.’ Not for efficiency or comfort, but something found within a way of life that has simply continued. And then, suddenly, it began to flow: the rhythm of the Gujo Odori. Before I knew it, boundaries had vanished, and everyone was part of the circle. Not rejecting, but accepting; flowing, yet never being swept away. That scene was like the clear waters of the Nagara River. In this place known as Gujo Hachiman, I feel as though I have touched the spirit of Hachiman-machi. I would be delighted if you could feel the “grace” of this town. *I’ve added some timestamps. The path leading up to Gujo Hachiman Castle is also part of the journey. I hope you enjoy it. 0:00 Start 0:55 Bus from Gujo Hachiman Station 3:20 Morning stroll through Hachiman-machi the next day 5:36 Koinobori (carp streamers) drying in the cold air 7:45 Lunch ~ That Summer Returns 10:03 To Gujo Hachiman Castle: Climbing Mt Hachiman ※Stone walls remaining from the Warring States period 13:41 Inside the castle 19:30 Outside the castle 20:50 Time to head home 23:20 Oh, snow is falling 26:30 Two days later, leaving Gujo 28:14 Managed to catch the express bus to Nagoya just in time~ #GujoHachiman #HachimanTown #Kansarashi #NagaraRiver #GujoOdori #GifuTravel #JapaneseLandscape #JourneyOfGaze
