Foton Tunland V7 4x4 Off-Road First Drive
We took the all-new Foton Tunland V7 4x4 out to Grabouw 4x4 for a proper first off-road impression during the Foton Unleashed 4x4 Day. This was not a full long-term review, but rather my first time driving the Tunland V7 off-road. We drove the green route at Grabouw 4x4 and also tackled a section of the orange route to see how the vehicle handles real obstacles in standard form. Straight away, the Tunland V7 impressed me with how capable it felt off-road. The low range is extremely low and controlled, the suspension articulation is really good for a standard vehilce, and the front and rear diff locks make a big difference when things get more technical. The biggest limitation I noticed was the approach angle. The front nose can catch on certain obstacles, but that is also very common with standard double cabs before fitting aftermarket bumpers or changing the setup. The departure angle felt very good, and I did not have any real issues with the back of the vehicle catching. Breakover angle is about what you would expect from a standard double cab with side steps. In this video, we also take a look at the interior, the tech, the screens, the general comfort features, and some of the key specs of the Foton Tunland V7. It comes with a 2.0-litre AUCAN turbo-diesel engine, with 48V mild-hybrid assistance, producing 120 kW and 450 Nm, paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. We also chat to Frik Moller from Foton South Africa, who gives us more insight into the vehicle, and Dries from RAW 4x4 shares his opinion from a suspension specialist point of view. Overall, for a stock standard vehicle, the Foton Tunland V7 really surprised me. It feels like a very capable and well-specced vehicle for the money, especially with standard front and rear diff locks, good low range control, and a strong value-for-money package.
