Trains & Autos Episode 1: A Train to Stranded The original plan was to ride the Amtrak all the way from Charlotte, North Carolina to Seattle, Washington and then picking up a 1962 Plymouth and driving it back home to North Carolina. The world had different plans. After riding the Crescent from Charlotte, NC to Charlottesville, VA we boarded the Cardinal from Charlottesville, VA to Chicago, Illinois. While rolling through West Virginia I learned that the Empire Builder from Chicago to Seattle was cancelled. This effectively meant we were stranded in Chicago. A plan was hatched and due to weather and high costs we decided to change the destination to Williams, CA to pick up a 1979 Dodge B100 van that I had purchased previously and was stored there. The weather was more favorable and the costs lower. This video shows the train ride from Charlotte to Chicago and is part 1 of this series.
