Phila Orch Cablethon May 7,1997
This is a multi-faceted time capsule (1997) of Philadelphia Orchestra sponsorship in the Region. All the local TV cable companies participated as it replaced the former "Radiothons" of WFLN which was sold to a pop music venue. There are in-depth interviews with musicians, management, volunteer committee chairs, then mayor Ed Rendell, Yo-Yo Ma, Wolfgang Sawallisch, and many others! The orchestra plays Tchaikovsky's 5th Symphony with more cameras than ever covering the players! There are a lot of commercial breaks which can be skimmed through. I trust everyone interested in The Philadelphia Orchestra and its past will enjoy some of the treasures in this video.
