God Save The Queen - 1:50:31 On this show, the Crazy Tour setlist rotation has the show begin with Let Me Entertain You, to great effect. It's then followed by an epic introduction by Freddie to the following song, Tie Your Mother Down. A fantastic opening to the show, which I personally prefer to the Jailhouse Rock/We Will Rock You (fast) opener that the Crazy Tour would continue to use from the next show onward. Just before If You Can't Beat Them, Freddie gets a little sentimental about the venue, saying it "This hall has some very good memories for us." He then asks when the band came to the venue last, to which you can hear the Royal Family reply "OPERA!!!!" "A NIGHT AT THE OPERA!!!" and Mercury agrees, saying "Right around the A Night At The Opera tour." This show often contends with the 2nd Newcastle show for the title of "Freddie's best show." Whether it's 1st or 2nd place is up for debate, but regardless, it displays Freddie Mercury at the top of his game. Hitting notes that he wouldn't dream of hitting on the Jazz tour, and even eclipsing some of his performances on the studio albums. Freddie's highlight of the night, in my opinion, is Somebody To Love. It features all of the verse Bb4s, the "EVERYBODY wants to put me down" Bb4, a very rare "water in my BRAIN!" record phrasing Bb4, and TWO C5s in the outro. This version is often seen as a contender for the best of all time, and it's no wonder people believe so. It's no ordinary version! The Crazy Tour isn't known for being the kindest to Sir Dr. Brian Harold May CBE PHD, but this may be the best show for him on the tour as of now. He changes up the first solo in Save Me (which he very rarely does) and adds a beautiful little run at the end of it. His Bohemian Rhapsody solo on this tour is the tightest one on the (circulating) tour, and sounds quite dramatic- fitting for the song. Mr. John Deacon still hasn't got the bass part to Save Me down-pat, as he's playing a much more simplified part and slips away from the key at the tail end of the first chorus. Some time between the 6th of December and the 26th, John would lock the bass part in and play it as he did on the record. I'm In Love With My Car has Roger Taylor once again forget the lyrics, just as he did in Glasgow, but it thankfully doesn't end up causing the whole song to de-rail. Uncharacteristically, Mr. Taylor seems to have a voice crack in We Are The Champions. At the introduction to Love Of My Life, Brian quips that they "should have recorded the live album here.", and I don't think any Queen fan would disagree. This is a classic show, and you can't go wrong with it! My source for this remaster was a copy that had long since been disregarded as inferior due to tape hiss, when it was actually an upgrade. The watermark in Bohemian Rhapsody is completely gone, and that song is now completely uncut. I've corrected the azimuth and made this tape true mono, as it's supposed to be. I've done the usual EQ, De-hum, De-noise, all that jazz. Unfortunately, all current copies of the show have phasing issues in the high end until Somebody To Love, and there's nothing I can do about that. Big thank you to ‪@KieranIsHome‬for helping me out with the speed correction. DOWNLOAD:
