The concept of the old umbrella-type antenna, always used with great success, is revived and adapted to the Baofeng UV5R. It is common knowledge among all radio amateurs that these devices of Chinese origin tend to be somewhat "deaf" due to an issue related to their AGC. The antenna in question does not have much gain (≈6 dBi), but it is enough to be used quite effectively and overcome the problem of "deafness." An antenna for another frequency was used as a base, and the measurements were adapted (with a saw in hand). The basic calculations used for this purpose are also explained.
