Song is short length and is filled with cheerful melody and eroticism, without any fear from Spanish Inquisition. It was clear prove of the new time inspired with the freedom is finally coming... Juan del Enzina (1468-1529) - a Spanish composer, poet and playwright, often called the founder, along with Gil Vicente, of Spanish drama. He was born in 1469 near Salamanca and was Jewish conversant descent. After leaving the University of Salamanca, in the early 1490s, he became a member of the household of Don Fadrique de Toledo, the second Duke of Alba. In 1492, Juan entertained his patron with a dramatic piece, the Triunfo de la fama, written to commemorate the fall of Granada. In 1496 he published his Cancionero, a collection of dramatic and lyrical poems. Around 1500 he relocated to Rome, where he apparently served in the musical establishments of several cardinals or noblemen. In 1518 Enzina took holy orders, and made a pilgrimage to Jerusalem, where he said his first mass. Since 1509 he had held a lay canonry at Málaga but in 1519 he was appointed prior of León. He died in Salamanca in 1533. The Cancionero de Palacio (Palace Songbook) is Spanish manuscript of Renaissance and late Medieval Music music, today located in Royal Palace Library Madrid (Biblioteca del Palacio Real de Madrid). The works in it were compiled during a time span of around 40 years, from the the year 1496, during the reign of Queen Isabella of Spain. until the beginning of the XVI century, approximately coinciding with the reign of the Catholic Monarchs. The songbook is a one of the greatest and priceless collection of Spanish music, including almost every known song of the early XVI century and contain over 500 pieces.
