Classic TV Theme: ER (Two versions • Full Stereo)
Medical dramas have been with us for at least 90 years...on radio (1932's 'Family Doctor') and early tv (Richard Boone in 'Medic'). But few have had the success of 'ER' (1994), created by novelist/physician Michael Crichton. Among US primetime medical shows only 'Grey's Anatomy' has topped ER's 15-year run and 23 Emmy wins. It was intended to be a movie, but Crichton and his collaborator, a fellow by the name of Spielberg, decided to make it a series. James Newton Howard wrote the show's original theme. It changed very little (if at all) until season 13 when Martin Davich composed a new, shorter theme. That stuck until the final episode brought back Howard's original. Many of the large ensemble cast came and went over the years (none of the main characters is featured in all 15 seasons). This selection of openings reflects some of these changes. 0:00 Opening titles, season one. 0:51 Opening titles, season five. 1:41 Opening titles, season ten. 2:31 End credits, season ten. 3:03 Opening titles, season 15. 3:19 End credits, season 15.
